Follows gitkb/meta_cli's new meta init claude layout: skills in .meta/skills/<name>/SKILL.md, linked from .claude/skills/ and .agents/skills/ (Codex), as atc and git-kb do.

  • This repo's own copies move from .claude/skills/meta-*/ to .meta/skills/meta-*/, with committed relative links .claude/skills/meta-* -> ../../.meta/skills/meta-* and the same under .agents/skills/. They were generated by running the new meta init claude --update here; rules and settings didn't change.
  • make skills refreshes .meta/skills/ and claude-plugin/skills/ from meta_cli. The links are static.
  • tests/init.bats covers:
    • the new layout, with links checked by readlink
    • other agent folders, linked only when they exist
    • refusing a legacy .meta config file
    • --update turning the chore: updating git-kb .claude files #36 real folders into links while a user's own skill stays
    • another tool's link left alone
    • this repo's copies and links matching meta_cli
  • docs/claude_code_skills.md documents the layout, the Windows copy fallback with its .meta-skill-copy marker, upgrades, ownership rules and the legacy .meta refusal.

Plugin skill content is unchanged, so plugin.json keeps its version.

Tested: bats tests/init.bats (34 passed) against the meta_cli branch.

Merge order

Part of [tasks/harmony-2714]: meta keeps its agent skills in a local .meta/ folder. Four PRs, same branch name harmony-2714-meta-skills-dir, so each repo's CI builds against the others:

  1. test(config): a .meta directory is never read as config meta_core#9, fix(mcp): meta_get_config ignores a .meta directory meta_mcp#8, feat(init): install skills into .meta/skills and link them into agent folders meta_cli#38: independent of each other, any order.
  2. feat(skills): keep meta's skills in .meta/skills, linked for Claude and Codex #105 last, after meta_cli#38: its tests/init.bats checks the new layout against meta_cli main. Then sync meta_cli into gitkb/meta as usual.

After a meta release, re-run meta init claude --update in harmony to move its committed .claude/skills/meta-*.md files to .meta/skills/ with links.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Skills are now shared across Claude Code, Codex, and other supported agent folders, so they can be accessed from existing agent setups.
    • Custom skills can be added through either supported skills folder.
  • Improvements
    • On Windows, setup can use copies when links are unavailable and replace them with links later.
    • Updates better protect existing files and links, and stop when a legacy configuration conflicts with the new setup.

…nd Codex

Match the layout meta init claude now installs: the skill copies move
from .claude/skills/ to .meta/skills/, with relative links from
.claude/skills/ and .agents/skills/. make skills refreshes .meta/skills/
and the plugin copy. init.bats covers the new layout, --update over the
real-folder layout, other tools' links, other agent folders and the
legacy .meta file refusal. docs/claude_code_skills.md documents the
layout, Windows copies and upgrades.

Walkthrough

Managed skills now reside in .meta/skills/, with .claude/skills/ and .agents/skills/ entries linked to that shared directory. The Makefile, installation documentation, and initialization tests reflect this layout and its update handling.

Comment thread docs/claude_code_skills.md Outdated

**Windows.** Symlinks need Developer Mode or admin rights there. Where a link can't be made, `meta init claude` copies the skill folder instead and puts a `.meta-skill-copy` marker in it; `meta init claude --update` replaces marked copies with links once links work.

**Upgrading.** Older releases wrote flat `.claude/skills/meta-*.md` files (which Claude Code never loaded) and later real `.claude/skills/meta-*/` folders. `meta init claude --update` removes both and links the new layout. It only replaces what meta wrote: a skill folder holding just `SKILL.md` (or a marked copy) and regular flat files. Other files, folders and links, including another tool's link with a meta skill's name, are left alone and reported as skipped; a link is never followed or removed.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

State the ownership limit before users update.

The claim that --update replaces only what meta wrote is too strong. The test at tests/init.bats Lines 252-265 expects an unmarked meta-* directory containing only SKILL.md to be replaced, regardless of that file’s content. A user-created skill with the same name and structure could therefore be lost. Explain that the update treats this structure as a legacy managed skill, and tell users to back up conflicting custom skills first.
