The Browser’s Stop control reloaded loading pages instead of cancelling them. Stop now reaches the owning native or streamed page, clears loading after cancellation, and avoids a false address-bar error for an explicit native Stop. Idle Refresh and reload shortcuts still reload.
This is one focused obvious-bug fix under CONTRIBUTING.md’s exception: the existing control already promises cancellation. The contract, IPC bridge, viewer service and guest adapter changes carry that same action across rendering owners; no new setting, shortcut or agent-stop behavior is added.
Verified with fail-first focused regressions and vp run check:changed upstream/main: 170 tests in 10 files, affected/dependent typechecks, format, lint, knip, GraphQL and React Compiler checks all passed.
Real-client proof with synthetic isolated state:
Native baseline: one Stop click cancelled request8 and started request9 for the same URL, with a false address error. Native patch: Stop cancelled without a replacement or error; idle Refresh still reloaded and the tab remained usable.
First navigation from a blank streamed tab: one Stop cancelled the pending main request without a replacement, returned the production projection to {_tag: "Idle"} with empty address/no current error, and the same tab then loaded a normal page successfully. All three abort-event orderings have fail-first regressions.
Standalone streamed web: one actual stopLoading send cancelled request12, made no replacement request, and returned the control to Refresh. Separate idle Refresh started request14 after completed request13. Full current-process request events were retained; no mocks or scope bypasses.
Native renderer PNGs/video omit guest pixels. Separate native guest PNGs are genuine webContents.capturePage results; no images are composited. Runtime provenance is in the transcript: native baseline ac8dce0, native patch d900ec23 (native path unchanged thereafter), streamed web e93f1b6. The later focused server follow-ups and their proof are recorded separately below. Native baseline and final streamed verification used private Xvfb. Video extract positions are media offsets, not latency measurements.
Before, native Stop reloads and reports an address error:
After, native Stop cancels without an error:

After Stop, the same document remains and the control returns to Refresh:
Supplemental first-navigation proof at 3c4d1698: private Xvfb, actual UI and read-only production projection observation; no mocks. Idle renders as the launcher/recent-history layout here. lastError means the current LoadFailed projection, not historical errors.
Not runtime-tested: remote-environment desktop tabs, desktop-hosted streamed tabs, relay/tunnel, macOS/Windows Electron or native mobile. Mobile’s existing control remains labeled Reload page. Shared routing and permission behavior are covered by the focused tests. Pre-existing status recovery for a hung retry from a Chromium error page is unchanged.
Reviewed with review-loop: 5 rounds with Claude Opus 5.5. Reviewer verdict: approved through 3c4d1698. The subsequent one-line initial-loading assignment and regression were self-reviewed under explicit user approval to use fresh CodeRabbit/CI, without a sixth delegate; the five Opus rounds did not review that assignment.
The initial-open timing regression fails before the assignment (Loading instead of Idle) and passes afterward. Focused service-test proof. This uses mocked external CDP/Page boundaries and is not claimed as an additional live UI capture.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The existing Stop control now cancels loading in native and streamed browser tabs instead of reloading. The change is confined to explicit tab actions, preserves idle Refresh, and introduces no material data or operational exposure.

The preview navigation control now stops active loading instead of reloading. Desktop previews route the request through IPC, while server-streamed previews send a stop-loading input. Both paths update navigation and loading state.
The shared navigation input includes stopLoading, and the desktop bridge contract exposes stopLoading(tabId).
Preview control dispatch apps/web/src/components/preview/PreviewChromeRow.tsx, apps/web/src/components/preview/PreviewView.tsx, apps/web/src/browser/ServerBrowserSurface.tsx, apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowserStream.test.ts
While loading, the navigation button invokes the stop handler. The preview routes it to the server surface or desktop bridge. The stream mutation test covers stop-loading input gating.
The desktop IPC path calls PreviewManager.stopLoading. The manager suppresses matching aborted navigation failures, and Page.stopLoading stops the guest web contents. Tests cover cancellation and failure outcomes.
Server navigation settlement apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.ts, apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.test.ts
The server tracks the stopped navigation generation and settles matching aborted navigation while clearing loading state. Tests cover abort timing, viewer permissions, and input gating.

A narrow retry-after-error ordering may leave the preview showing Stop after cancellation; the source path remains possible, although its real-world trigger is not established.

The description follows the template's sections: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. It states the problem (Stop reloaded loading pages instead of cancelling them) and the change across contract, IPC, viewer service, and guest adapter. It gives an issue link and a scope justification, and it lists focused tests and checks with observed results. It includes before/after screenshots and recordings, and it lists what was not runtime-tested. The description is long and detailed, and some evidence is only linked. Those links are supporting detail, not missing required content. The Problem section does not have a separate heading-level reproduction block, but the reproduction is covered in the Verification section. Overall the description is mostly complete.

Explanation
Issue #29474 requires the existing Browser Stop control to cancel the current main-document navigation while loading. Idle Refresh must still reload. No other coding requirement applies. The reviewed head (28130d3) implements both requirements in the whole-PR diff against merge base 0847a44.
Native owner (#29474): PreviewManager.stopLoading in apps/desktop/src/preview/Manager.ts increments a per-WebContents stop generation in a WeakMap and calls wc.stop(). navigate records the generation before loadURL. If loadURL rejects with ERR_ABORTED (code) or errno === -3 after a stop occurred, it returns success. Other rejections still propagate. GuestInput.sendPageCommand handles Page.stopLoading by calling webContents.stop() and returning {}.
Streamed owner (#29474): apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.ts adds stoppedGeneration to ServerTab. The stopLoading case records the current navigationGeneration, sends Page.stopLoading, and calls settleStoppedNavigation. That helper clears loading and reports Idle for about:blank, or the loaded page otherwise. An ERR_ABORTED failure for the stopped generation settles the stop and does not enter the aborted-download wait. The initial-navigation branch adds tab.loading = true. Without it, settleStoppedNavigation returns early for a first navigation, so this assignment is required for Stop to work on a blank first navigation.
Client routing (#29474): PreviewChromeRow calls onStopLoading while loading is true and onRefresh otherwise. PreviewView routes Stop to the server surface or to the preview bridge. The contract, IPC channel, preload bridge, and PreviewStreamNavigationInput carry the action to the owning renderer.
Tests: the diff adds Manager tests for ERR_ABORTED with and without an explicit stop, ServerBrowser tests for stop settlement across abort-event orderings and blank-page navigation, and a GuestInput test. The PR reports fail-first regressions. I did not rerun the test suite.
Unresolved: remote-environment desktop tabs, desktop-hosted streamed tabs, and macOS/Windows Electron were not runtime-tested, per the PR description. This does not change the coding verdict, because the code paths are shared and covered by focused tests. The Refresh-idle path is verified by focused tests and the PR's real-client evidence.

Explanation
Every changed area serves the Stop objective of #29474, and none adds a setting, shortcut, product default, or agent-stop behavior:
Contract and transport: PREVIEW_STOP_LOADING_CHANNEL in apps/desktop/src/ipc/channels.ts, the preview.stopLoading method in apps/desktop/src/ipc/methods/preview.ts, the preload bridge, DesktopPreviewBridge.stopLoading in packages/contracts/src/ipc.ts, and PreviewStreamNavigationInput (including stopLoading) in packages/contracts/src/preview.ts. The serverBrowserStream.ts type change reuses that contract type for the stream input union, which supports the new stop input.
Native owner: PreviewManager.stopLoading, the navigate ERR_ABORTED handling, and the GuestInputPage.stopLoading branch.
Streamed owner: stoppedGeneration, settleStoppedNavigation, the stopLoading case, and the initial tab.loading = true assignment.
Client: ServerBrowserHandle.stopLoading, PreviewView.handleStopLoading, and PreviewChromeRow. The chrome change also relabels the tooltip from "Loading…" to "Stop" for the same control.
Tests: Manager.test.ts, ServerBrowser.test.ts, ServerBrowserStream.test.ts, and the GuestInput test support the changed behavior.
No unrelated feature work or refactoring beyond the contract consolidation was found in the reviewed paths.

Await the abort fallback before asserting the final state.
For the blank abortEvent: "after" case, the test can consume the early Idle event before the later requestfailed fallback runs. Control the 5-second abort timer with fake timers, advance it after emitting requestfailed, then assert that the tab remains Idle. Do not add a sleep or polling loop.

In the blank `abortEvent: "after"` test, replace the event-waiting loop around
`PubSub.take(events)` with deterministic fake-timer control: emit
`requestfailed`, advance the existing 5-second abort timer, then assert the tab
remains `Idle`. Do not add a sleep or polling loop.

The timer suggestion in the final follow-up review is unnecessary for the matching Stop-abort path. The requestfailed handler calls settleStoppedNavigation and returns before the download-abort timer is created. After Stop has settled, the helper's !tab.loading guard makes the later matching abort a no-op.
The test emits requestfailed synchronously before awaiting the Idle event and reading the projection. There is no pending five-second fallback to advance in this case; the existing explicit event milestone is the appropriate assertion boundary. Keeping the test unchanged for this nit. The documented error-page retry limitation remains the separately accepted follow-up.

reproduced on github/main (61c3794c32): one stop click started a replacement request for the same streaming document. the control stayed on stop.
on this head, one stop click closed the streaming request without a replacement. the partial document remained visible and the control returned to refresh without an address-bar error.
idle refresh still started a new request. the reload shortcut also still reloaded while loading. normal navigation worked after cancellation.
stopping a fresh tab before response headers arrived returned it to the idle launcher with an empty address and no error. the same tab then loaded a normal document.
both checkouts ran separately with isolated state, with main stopped before starting this head. projects and threads were created through the app. real codex gpt-6.1-sol turns completed through both clients: one built and started a real git-backed document reader, and the second read it and confirmed its endpoint with curl. the same reader and document data were used for both browser runs. no mocked transport, replay provider, injected state, or imported fixtures.
145 focused tests in four files passed through blacksmith: server browser, stream permissions, desktop manager, and guest input. existing head ci reports 28 successful checks. no source changes or pushes were needed.

this pass covered server-owned streaming in the linux chrome web client. native electron guest cancellation, native ios/android, macos/windows, desktop-hosted streaming, remote environments, and relay/tunnel were not exercised. other providers were not exercised. the previously documented retry from a chromium error page was not exercised or changed. focused tests covering native routing do not replace live native-client verification.

Independent current-head review of pingdotgg/t3code#29475 at 28130d337dd868c56378373a2aac2a09488d0f4e. I read the full 16-file delta, the current root AGENTS/CONTRIBUTING guidance, the desktop IPC/guest path, web Stop/Refresh wiring, server stream authorization, and the exact-head navigation handlers/tests. One source-derived P2 remains in the initial-navigation race described in the inline comment below. This is a synthetic ordering analysis, not a reproduction on a fleet host or a test execution by this reviewer. The existing Macroscope APPROVED review and author-provided RED/GREEN/client evidence remain separate evidence; this COMMENT does not replace maintainer triage, approval or merge authority.

P2 — Stop can lose an initial main-request event delivered after the Stop command.createTab sets tab.loading = true before initialNavigation, but tab.navigationGeneration is incremented only by the later page.on("request") callback. If the user stops during that interval, this snapshots generation N and records stoppedGeneration = N; if the still-pending Playwright request event is then delivered, its handler increments to N+1 and sets loading = true. The matching ERR_ABORTED request-failure no longer matches stoppedGeneration, so it enters the ordinary download-abort timer path and can later report LoadFailed for the blank initial page (or leave a stale Loading projection). The new Stop settles an initial navigation before its request event test stops before the event but never emits that same main request after Stop, so it misses this ordering. Please add a regression that issues Stop, then emits the matching initial main-request event, then its ERR_ABORTED failure; assert the tab stays Idle and no download-abort fallback is armed. Bind the stop intent to that exact pending initial navigation without consuming a later corrected URL. Source-derived interleaving; not a claimed real-client incident.
