docs: document the 13 hosted MCP tools missing from the skills - #16
Conversation
The nightly Deepnote MCP drift check fails because the hosted server advertises tools no SKILL.md mentions: attach_integration, copy_file, delete_block, detach_integration, duplicate_notebook, create_integration, create_streamlit_app, get_project, get_streamlit_app_status, list_folders, list_streamlit_apps, update_notebook, and generate_project_url. Document each tool where an agent would look for it, with contracts taken from the server implementation: - deepnote-mcp: full tool list, routing rows, and new Project Inspection, Integration Management, Streamlit App, and Cross-Project File Copy workflows; static-site steps now use get_project for current state. - deepnote-notebook-editing: update_notebook, duplicate_notebook, and delete_block, plus a deletion guidance section; correct the claim that MCP exposes no deletion. - deepnote-links: generate_project_url as the preferred link source; Streamlit and static-site URLs come from tool responses. - deepnote-data-execution: get_project; fix the stale sentence saying the server cannot upload static-site files. - README and manifests: capabilities list, prompts, troubleshooting, and boundary sentences; drop the publish_static_site hedging now that it is live; bump the plugin to 0.3.0. MCP guidance now lists tools, arguments, safety rules, and response requirements. Workspace guidance covers folders, projects, integrations, and cross-project file copying. Notebook guidance covers renaming, duplication, and block deletion. Link guidance places cell and block fragments after UTM parameters. README examples and troubleshooting guidance were expanded. - Around line 202-204: Update the Streamlit entrypoint guidance for
create_streamlit_app to state that the entrypoint must exist in the source
project before creation and must be confirmed via the files list from
get_project; allow copy_file when that source file already exists, since it can
create the target entrypoint from it.
In `@plugins/deepnote/skills/deepnote-notebook-editing/SKILL.md`:
- Line 71: Update the workflow guidance around update_block and delete_block to
state that an explicit metadata-change request authorizes deleting the old block
only after the replacement created with create_block has been verified; retain
the rule that delete_block is otherwise limited to explicit deletion requests.
- Line 71: Update the metadata replacement guidance around create_block and
delete_block to capture the original block position, pass it when creating the
replacement, then remove the old block while preserving order. Require verifying
the notebook’s final block order after replacement, while keeping update_block
restrictions unchanged.

Why
The nightly Deepnote MCP drift check fails and keeps re-opening #10. The hosted server advertises 34 tools; 13 of them appear in no
SKILL.md, which is whatscripts/detect-deepnote-mcp-drift.shgreps for.Missing:
attach_integration,copy_file,delete_block,detach_integration,duplicate_notebook,create_integration,create_streamlit_app,get_project,get_streamlit_app_status,list_folders,list_streamlit_apps,update_notebook,generate_project_url.What
Each tool is documented in the skill an agent would actually consult, with parameters, permissions, and failure modes taken from the server implementation in deepnote-internal (
apps/webapp/server/mcp/tools/*and the v2 public API contracts they bridge to), not guessed.update_projectandpublish_static_site), new routing rows, and new workflows for Project Inspection, Integration Management, Streamlit Apps, and Cross-Project File Copy. Static Site Workflow now readsstaticFilesfromget_project. Safety rules coverdelete_blockand the credential echo increate_integrationresponses.update_notebook(rename only,Initdesignates the init notebook),duplicate_notebook(same project, auto-named),delete_blockwith a Block Deletion Guidance section. Corrects the sentence claiming MCP exposes no deletion.generate_project_urlas the preferred single-link source with the manual URL shapes as fallback; Streamlit and static-site URLs come from tool responses, never hand-built.get_project; fixes the stale line saying the server cannot upload static-site files.publish_static_siteappears" hedging since it is live; plugin version 0.3.0.Notable behaviours captured: attach/detach return 409 rather than being idempotent;
create_integrationis admin-only and cannot create warehouse integrations;create_streamlit_appneeds an existing file, restarts the machine, and the URL is only live onceget_streamlit_app_statusreportsrunning;copy_fileis cross-project only, never overwrites, and has no destination path;update_blockstill rejectsmetadata.Verification
claude plugin validate --strict .andclaude plugin validate --strict plugins/deepnotepass.Not run: the real
scripts/detect-deepnote-mcp-drift.shagainst the live server, since I have noDEEPNOTE_TOKENlocally. Triggering the workflow withworkflow_dispatchafter merge will confirm.Relationship to #11
#11 adds the
deepnote-dynamic-appsskill and does not mention any of the 13 tools, so it does not affect the drift check. Both PRs touch the routing table indeepnote-mcp/SKILL.mdand a paragraph indeepnote-notebook-editing/SKILL.md; whichever lands second needs a small rebase.Follow-ups
docs/deepnote-mcp.mdin deepnote/deepnote covers only 5 of the 13 tools and should be synced separately.Closes #10
