The Add-ons Manager's + button now lists only the add-on files in Download that match the open tab: .cgp on Plugins, .cgt on Templates.

Why an in-app list

The system picker (SAF) filters by MIME type, and .cgp/.cgt have no registered one, so no OpenDocument arguments can narrow it to these files. It listed every file in Download.

• now opens a dialog listing the matching files at the top level of Download, newest first, with size and date. Browse other folders opens the system picker as before, so add-ons kept elsewhere (an SD card, a cloud drive, another folder) stay reachable. Rejected: an in-app list with no fallback (it would strand those files), and opening the system picker in Download (it still lists everything).

Review by commit

1. 048852022 - lets the install paths accept the file:// URIs the list hands over:

   • "Delete after install" now deletes a file:// source. DocumentsContract.deleteDocument cannot, so the file stayed and an error toast appeared.
   • ExternalFileInstallViewModel.onPicked() processes like onReceived() but without LastValueGate. The gate exists for an intent redelivered across a rotation. A user pick never is, so picking the same .cgt again after cancelling now opens its dialog again. SAF picks go through it too.

2. ccd778bf0 - the picker: DownloadFilesRepository -> DownloadPickerViewModel -> DownloadPickerDialog, wired into ManagerScreen. Both kinds of pick share one routing function, so install is unchanged.

3. 3388e0f4a - test only: the kept-source test fails if the install never finishes.

4. 5112ea09e - mechanical: PluginInstallSource.ContentUri renamed to PickedUri, since it also carries file:// picks now.

5. 1727ce43a - one listing helper, addonFilesIn(), for the + list and the Templates tab. It skips hidden names, so MediaProvider's .pending- (still downloading) and .trashed- files are no longer offered, and leaves out core.cgt in both.

6. da6477468 - comments only: the ManagerScreen and TemplateManagerScreen KDocs describe the new + behaviour.

7. 7330b50ec - test only: the gated-repeat test waits 300 ms, not 2 s, for an effect that never comes.

8. c51bda9c9 - long-press on a file row or on Browse other folders shows help. It reuses the screen-level plugin.manager tooltip: a picker-specific tag needs its text added through OfflineDocumentationTools (tooltip schema 3.0), and a tag without text shows the "no tooltip" fallback.

9. b87cd7705 - the hidden-name filter applies to Download only: the installer accepts a collection named .name, stored as .name.cgt, and it must stay listed on the Templates tab. (Superseded by 10.)

10. ef570b4b7 - listings skip only MediaProvider's placeholder names, .pending-<expiry>-<name> and .trashed-<expiry>-<name> (AOSP MediaProvider FileUtils.PATTERN_EXPIRES_FILE), not every hidden name, in both folders. Uninstalling .hidden.cgt moves it to Download, where the old rule hid it. Accepted limitation: a collection the user names in that exact placeholder form is not listed.

Sites checked for content:// assumptions: the plugin copy path (ContentResolver.openInputStream reads file://), UriFileImporter.getDisplayName (handles file://), and ExternalFileInstallViewModel, which copies and never deletes the source.

Testing

• Unit tests: repository filtering, ordering, folder scope, hidden files and core.cgt; picker ViewModel loading, dismiss and stale-result handling; the gate; plugin source delete. All tests in repositories.* and viewmodels.* pass on ef570b4b7.
• With each fix reverted, its regression test fails for the reason it is named for:
  • plugin delete: the source file survived;
  • picking twice: the second pick produced no effect;
  • hidden files: .pending-/.trashed- files were listed, on both the + list and the Templates tab;
  • core.cgt: it was listed in the + list;
  • hidden installed collection: .hidden.cgt disappeared from the Templates tab;
  • hidden collection in Download (where uninstall puts it), and a hidden non-placeholder file in the + list: both disappeared under the dot-prefix rule;
  • kept-source test: with the install failing, it now times out instead of passing;
  • gated repeat: with the gate removed, the 300 ms version still fails.
• spotlessCheck passes on ef570b4b7, and CI's Build Universal APK passes on it; :app:assembleV8Debug also built locally on c51bda9c9.
• On device: the picker was tested manually by the author on ccd778bf0. On a Pixel 6 Pro (Android 17) running c51bda9c9:
  • long-press on a row and on Browse other folders shows help above the dialog, without installing or opening the system picker;
  • .pending-/.trashed- placeholders and a core.cgt in Download are not listed, on either tab.
• Font scale 1.0 and 2.0, Plugins and Templates tabs, verified on that device. At 2.0 long names wrap without clipping, the list scrolls to the last file, and the two buttons stack vertically, both visible. The dialog stays open across scale changes.
