DMIC capture with 2ch when configured for 4ch gives corrupt audio #329

Closed

Description

@singalsu

The captured audio sounds like 1/2x speed due to capturing all four microphones but formatting the output as 2ch.

The DMIC FW driver should get the actual capture channels count from DAI and disable for the capture session the non-used PDM controllers for excess channels.

The driver can do only best effort, e.g. capture from microphones 0 and 1 for 2ch capture. It does not currently have information to decide for 0 and 1 vs. 2 and 3.

    The SOFT PR #90 that contains a fix is merged. I just checked that stereo recording is now rejected if we use four channel DMIC capture topology (and four channels recording sounds OK).

    $ arecord -Dhw:0,6 -c 4 -f S32_LE -r 48000 -d 10 tmp.wav
    Recording WAVE 'tmp.wav' : Signed 32 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Channels 4
    $ arecord -Dhw:0,6 -c 2 -f S32_LE -r 48000 -d 10 tmp.wav
    Recording WAVE 'tmp.wav' : Signed 32 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Stereo
    arecord: set_params:1305: Channels count non available
