[BUG][TGL] TGLU_VOLT_SDW has no sound when playback on speaker #2637
Describe the bug
On TGL Volteer device, we observed that sometimes there is no sound output through speaker(max98373) while the headset(rt5682) works well after OS boot. After investigation, we found fixed pattern to reproduce the issue:
reboot
use speaker-test to check if sound comes out from speaker
wait DSP to suspend (no operations on device > 6s)
repeat step 2 and step 3 several times (better > 10)
after several PM, there will be no sound through speaker.
Note: speaker always works well after kmod reload, and there is no error in the dmesg or sof-logger
Can we know the software recipe & command used to aplay ? Also please help update with dmesg with debug log
Observe Card-2 is enumerated for Speaker.
card 2: sofsoundwire [sof-soundwire], device 2: smart373-spk (*) []
use speaker-test to check if sound comes out from speaker
wait DSP to suspend
repeat step 2 and step 3 several times (better > 10)
Note: speaker always works well after kmod reload.
These will be no sound through Speaker(max98373) after several runtime PM, once there is no sound over Speaker, check headset(rt5682), there is sound output.

@RuiqingX I don't see Speakers on your "aplay -l" cmd? What is your command to test speaker playback?
plbossart commentedon Dec 1, 2020
Indeed you need to clarify which topology is used. I doesn't look like you have a working setup here.

@RuiqingX Could you test it with SOF version tgl_010 https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/releases/tag/releases%2Ftgl%2Fv10.0 ? We need to know if this is a SOF issue or a kernel issue.
RuiqingX commentedon Dec 2, 2020
This issue is caused by 11.20 daily firmware.
SOF: {da9e0d3}

This issue cannot be reproduced with tgl-011-drop-stable branch.
WYL-12 commentedon Dec 8, 2020
This is a SOF issue, the bisect cause by 8a8e873.

Based on last comments, this is related to FW, not drivers. Moving to firmware.

@WYL-12 I dont think thesofproject/sof@8a8e873 is correct, it's a commit for IMX topology. The issue may not be 100% reproducible ?

@aiChaoSONG can you help to double check the bisect result?
aiChaoSONG commentedon Dec 16, 2020
To reproduce this issue, use below procedures:
Note: speaker always works well after kmod reload.
These will be no sound through Speaker(max98373) after several runtime PM, once there is no sound over Speaker, check headset(rt5682), there is sound output.
