Experiment branch (do not merge): measures how much a restored golangci-lint analysis cache is worth as the linted tree drifts away from the tree that saved it. Branched from master@7337f42490 (Oct 21) with the (already-reviewed elsewhere) cache path fix plus test-only save-on-PR enabled, so the branch can generate its own old-tree cache entries.
Sequence: cold run saves an old-tree cache, then runs with the cache 0 commits, ~7 days, and ~9 days behind the tree, comparing no-tags/release phase durations.
Skipping CI for Draft Pull Request.

Chores
Updated automated workflow cache handling. No changes to app features or behavior are included in this release.
The golangci-lint workflow now uses the current commit SHA for cache restore and save keys. It exports the runner’s HOME to GITHUB_ENV and saves cache entries on push and pull-request events.

Summary
Cache restore and save policy .github/workflows/style.yaml
The restore and save steps use the current commit SHA as the cache key. The job exports HOME to GITHUB_ENV, and the save step runs on push and pull-request events.
This draft only changes CI cache behavior for a measurement experiment. If the per-run cache saves are not controlled, the measured cache ages may be wrong. There is no production impact, but fix this before trusting the results.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Check out the experiment’s historical tree.
When master has advanced, this checkout uses the pull request’s merge commit, not the October 21 branch head. The seed run therefore caches the merged tree rather than the intended old tree. Check out github.event.pull_request.head.sha and key the cache to the checked-out commit. (docs.github.com)

Stop measurement runs from replacing the seed cache.
On a pull request run, the save step writes go-lint-v2-<sha> after the job succeeds. A later measurement run on a new SHA misses that exact key. It then matches the go-lint-v2- prefix, and GitHub returns the most recently created matching entry. That entry can be an earlier measurement run's save, not the seed. The run then measures the wrong cache age.
For measurement runs, skip the save and restore only the intended seed key. Remove the restore-keys prefix so that no other entry can match.
