Android: Daemon startup failed on AMD64 buildbot #137756
The Android buildbot has been failing recently, e.g. here, with a message from Gradle:
* What went wrong:
Execution failed for task ':app:processDebugAndroidTestResources'.
> A failure occurred while executing com.android.build.gradle.internal.res.LinkApplicationAndroidResourcesTask$TaskAction
> AAPT2 aapt2-8.10.0-12782657-linux Daemon #0: Daemon startup failed
This should not happen under normal circumstances, please file an issue if it does.
* Try:
> Run with --stacktrace option to get the stack trace.
> Run with --info or --debug option to get more log output.
> Run with --scan to get full insights.
> Get more help at https://help.gradle.org.
Looks like this was caused by an automatic Java update on the server, and it kept on breaking subsequent builds because they were reusing the same Gradle daemon instance. The daemon does have a timeout, but it defaults to 3 hours, and the builds were happening more frequently than that.
I've restarted the daemon, and I've disabled future automatic updates of Java with this command:
apt-mark hold openjdk-17-jdk-headless openjdk-17-jre-headless
To install any future updates:
Make sure there are no builds running: stop the buildbot worker if necessary.
