ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped server bug fix that corrects delegated-task settlement after a queued follow-up is promoted to Steer, with a focused regression test covering the affected lifecycle. Existing non-Steer task handling and stored contracts remain unchanged. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

…un's task A promoted follow-up shares its steered run with that run's own task. It no longer publishes a second result transfer for the run, which made the run's own task skip settlement. Restart holds use the steered run's task runs, and task_status reads the steered run while the finalizer has not settled yet.

…tion A restart can cut the turn a follow-up was steered into and resume it in a continuation run. The promoted task now resolves to that continuation, so it stays open while the turn resumes and settles with the continuation's result.

When a promoted follow-up completes,
readTaskusesdelegatedTaskResultRun(childControls, task.id)and can return the Steer run’s completed status and summary. Taking over this one as maintainer for batch composer-chat-16. I’ll reconcile it with current main, reduce the tests, and rebuild the smallest server fix. I’ll verify promoted follow-ups, shared result transfers and restart settlement, then push back here while preserving your commits. No merge. |

Continued in #23300, preserving these commits and adding the ownerless restart regression and fix. The cross-fork source repository is unavailable through the forge, so the revised branch is on origin. Focused tests: 32/32 passed; deterministic runtime scenarios: 4/4 passed. Client evidence limitations are recorded in the replacement PR. |
Promoting a delegated queued follow-up to Steer cancels its queue run, so the task can read as stopped even while its work continues in the running turn. Resolve the task through its moved user message and any restart continuations, then settle it with the joined turn’s actual result. Tasks sharing a joined turn reuse one result transfer; if the turn has no owning task, its first promoted task publishes that transfer.
Rebuilt from @murayy’s work in #19352, preserving the contributor commits and merging current main. The remaining paginated-read bug is also fixed: reading an assistant-only result page acknowledges both tasks even when the promoted user message is outside that page. No wire or client changes.
Verification
Headless integration proof and output.
Verification limits
Headless Linux server/service integration only, using a deterministic provider adapter rather than live provider inference. Restart settlement is verified against persisted recovery state; a real process crash/relaunch was not exercised. A crash between promotion commit and the live status-sync handler can leave the stored card pending until final settlement, as with existing start-status synchronization. The pre-existing completion-before-steer-delivery fallback can still create a new follow-up if the provider turn ends before delivery; this race was not redesigned. While a promoted task is working, latestTerminalStatus may still describe its cancelled queue run. Native macOS, Windows, Electron, iOS and Android clients and the visual Steer control were not exercised. No client-specific changes are required by this shared server fix.
