feat(usage): Limits card shows pace and refill beside the number - #19140
takeover validation at faf2477c2cd493ee98cdcd81d8f3740ba13521ff: merged current main without rebasing, preserved its newer bars and account actions, hid numeric pace for incomplete reset clocks, and allowed the mobile summary to wrap. both bot findings addressed.
blacksmith vp run check:changed github/main passes format, lint, knip, 33 affected package typechecks, 63 tests, and react compiler checks. two independent code reviews approve this head.
web verified through the server hub reader with temporary provider fixtures: 1280px and 390px, light/dark, refill hover/focus, account details. the visible native codex probe warning is outside this change. native mobile runtime remains unverified on this vm.

Stacked on #14477. Merge that first; this PR's own change is the top commit, f25a195. Both target main because the branches live on a fork.
Problem
On Usage → Limits, a card says roughly the same thing three times: the pace icon, the ↻ +N% refill line and the bar. The pace icon is a glyph you have to hover to decode, and the refill sits on its own line away from the number it changes.
Change
The heading's pace icon (web) and "Ahead of pace" / "Under pace" label (mobile) become muted text in the existing text-xs style: 20% ahead of pace, 15% behind pace, or On pace when within 3 points either way.
The pool refill moves from its own line to beside the number, 40% left ↻ +18%. On web, single-account pools now show it too; before, web only showed the refill for pools with 2+ accounts. On web a tooltip spells it out ("Pooled usage +18% in 1h 59m", or "Usage +55% in 1h 29m" for a single account); on mobile the same text is its accessibility label.
In packages/shared, the pool's pace becomes a signed paceHeadroomPercent, with a formatPaceHeadroom helper and tests.
One visible difference beyond layout: the old label called anything within 5 points "On pace"; the new text uses a 3-point band, so a window main calls "On pace" at 4–5 points off now reads "4% behind pace".
Scope and approval
There is no explicit maintainer approval of this direction. The closest is Julius's review of #11095, a similar pace PR by someone else. That review asked for design iteration: no new typography, no neon green bar, and proof with several pooled accounts. This PR is the card-layout half of that iteration, split out of https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/14477 so the pace marks can be reviewed on their own:
it uses only existing text styles and neutral theme colours;
it adds no accent colour;
the evidence below shows two pooled accounts next to a single account.
If the direction still needs a sign-off, I'm happy to move it to an Ideas discussion first.
Verification
The shared, web and mobile usage tests pass (55 tests, including formatPaceHeadroom).
tsc --noEmit for packages/shared, apps/web and apps/mobile is clean, as are vp lint and vp fmt --check on the changed files.
Setup: a worktree dev server with native providers turned off and a usageLimitSources entry pointing at a local fake CLIProxyAPI hub. That drives the real server-side hub reader and pooling code with fixed usage figures.
Data: two Codex accounts (ada behind pace, ben ahead) and one Claude account, so each screenshot shows a 2-account pool and a 1-account pool together.
Mobile: captured on an iOS 27.0 simulator paired to the same dev server.
Made with Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code via T3 Code. Web screenshots by GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex; mobile screenshots by Claude Opus 5.5 on an iOS simulator.
Each account segment on Usage → Limits gets a dashed neutral mark where
even spending would leave its quota, and the card heading says how far the
pool is from it ("24% under pace", "7% over pace", "On pace") instead of
the pace icon. The segment popover on web and the account screen on mobile
state the mark's value.
With one account the pace icon, refill line and bar said overlapping
things, so the heading keeps only the pace text. With two or more, the
"↻ +N%" pool refill line stays: no segment carries that aggregate. Mobile
now matches web in hiding it for a single account.
The pool's pace becomes a signed paceHeadroomPercent, and the composer
bars reuse the new paceRemainingPercent helper.
The next reset's share sits next to "left" as ↻ +N% for one account or
many, with a tooltip on web (and a spoken label on mobile) that explains
it goes back to the pool and when. The even-pace mark no longer
brightens on hover.
The dashed mark was 50% foreground over the fill, which measured
2.4-2.8:1 on light fills. A solid muted tick that overhangs the bar by
4px reads against the page background at 4.7:1 (light) and 5.1:1 (dark)
wherever it sits. The fill and hatching move to an inner clipped layer
so the overhang is not cut off.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The usage cards now place refill amounts beside remaining quota and show numeric pace headroom. The changes are limited to informational presentation and do not alter quotas, billing, or account settings.

Pooled usage limits now expose numeric pace headroom and formatted pace labels. Mobile and web displays show next-refill details. The web display uses a tooltip for pooled and single-account usage.
Changes: Usage pacing and pooled quota displays

Summary
Shared pace calculations packages/shared/src/usageLimits.ts, packages/shared/src/usageLimits.test.ts
LimitPoolWindow now exposes nullable numeric paceHeadroomPercent. The calculation uses rounded remaining usage and time values, and returns null when any pool member lacks valid elapsed-time data. formatPaceHeadroom formats values within ±3 as “On pace” and other values as ahead of or behind pace. Tests cover the helper and pooled-window values.
Pooled usage displays apps/mobile/src/features/usage/UsageLimitsPooled.tsx, apps/web/src/components/usage/UsageLimitsPooled.tsx, apps/web/src/components/usage/UsageLimits.tsx
Mobile and web displays use formatted pace headroom. Mobile places next-refill details beside remaining usage and adds an accessibility label. Web displays refill details in a tooltip for pooled and single-account usage. PaceIcon is now file-local.
Issue 21896 concerns missing pace indicators for Grok Limits rows. This change updates pace text and classification, but the missing Grok window duration remains unresolved.

Merge Risk: Low · up to faf24
Some usage cards can show an incorrect pace status or describe single-account refill usage as pooled. These are low-risk, localized fixes that should be addressed before relying on the new indicators.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to 091c9
The inspected changes calculate and display usage information without introducing new permissions, provider operations or account access. Both clients consume the replacement field, while provider data formats and existing quota-reset interactions remain unchanged.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The incremental exposure is limited to usage presentation in the existing web and mobile views. The inspected changes do not grant authority over additional accounts, environments or data stores; displayed refill predictions are not reset operations.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The adjacent web reset-credit interaction predates this PR. Redemption still depends on account.redeem, uses the existing account-specific redemption input, and passes through confirmation and canManageProviders UI gates. The display changes do not alter these controls; backend authorization is outside this inspection.

Explanation
The title "feat(usage): Limits card shows pace and refill beside the number" matches the main change. The diff moves the pace label and the refill indicator next to the remaining percentage on the Usage Limits cards, and it adds the signed pace headroom text. It is specific and follows the conventional commit style the template asks for.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template sections (Problem, Change, Scope and approval, Verification). The Problem and Change sections clearly describe the card redundancy and the layout and wording changes. The Scope and approval section openly states that no explicit maintainer approval exists and explains the basis for the change. Verification lists specific test counts, checks, environments, and before/after screenshots. The author also notes the native mobile runtime was not verified on the VM. The description also includes a note about the 3-point band changing from the former 5-point band. The description is substantially complete. The open question is whether the scope and approval requirement is satisfied, because the PR objectives record a maintainer comment proposing closure under the prior approval rule. That is a scope concern for maintainers, not a gap in the description's structure.

this dry-run assessment proposes closure under the prior approval rule. this changes Limits card presentation and intentionally narrows "on pace" from five points to three. the description states there is no explicit approval of this direction. design feedback on a different contributor's pace proposal does not approve this scope.
obtain explicit maintainer approval in an Ideas discussion for the presentation and classification changes, including the inherited pace work, then link that approval and request reconsideration. the report that the current pace icon and refill line are difficult to understand remains useful. this is an unexecuted draft; no github action has been taken.

Use the shared rounding expression for pooled pace.
collectLimitPools uses Math.round(100 - meanElapsed * 100), which can differ by one point from the repository convention Math.round((1 - elapsed) * 100) at reachable half-percent boundaries. In the boundary case, paceHeadroomPercent becomes 3 instead of 4, so formatPaceHeadroom displays On pace instead of 4% behind pace.
Extend the existing fully timed pool test with this boundary fixture and assert paceHeadroomPercent is 4 and the formatted result is 4% behind pace.

pool.columns includes accounts with no member for this window. Therefore, a window with one participating account can have pool.columns.length > 1, causing its accessibility label to announce “Pooled usage”. Use pool.members.length instead.

For a driver pool with multiple configured accounts where only one account reports the current window, pool.columns.length > 1 still renders Pooled usage. The tooltip therefore labels single-account usage as pooled usage. Use pool.members.length > 1; the refill amount already uses the participating-member count.

verification is blocked for the redesigned quota cards. real codex turns work, but this vm cannot read real quota data. no code changes or pushes were made.

opened usage → limits. both main and the pr showed Codex: Codex could not read usage (JSON-RPC -32600). no quota cards rendered. the original layout could therefore not be reproduced with real data.
on the pr, refresh limits completed and preserved that warning. switching to tokens displayed actual codex transcript history and the gpt-6.1-sol breakdown; switching back restored limits.

numeric pace, the three-point band, inline refill, refill hover/keyboard tooltip, pooled accounts, and account-detail interactions remain unverified with real quota data. the inference proxy supports turns but its native account quota read fails. its management endpoint rejects the available inference key, and no management credential is configured. no mocks, hub fixtures, or demo data were used to bypass this.
native ios/android, electron desktop, other providers, remote/relay/tunnel paths, and real quota reset transitions were not exercised on this linux vm. a quota-capable codex login or authorized real usage hub is needed to finish the changed-behavior verification. these captures document the blocker, not a successful visual redesign verification.
