Add additionalAlertmanagerConfigs.timeoutMilliseconds (int32, 1–600000) to support sub-second Alertmanager timeouts while retaining an explicit integer API.

Keep the existing timeoutSeconds field and its 1–600 second validation bounds for compatibility with stored objects. Mark it deprecated; when both fields are set, CMO gives milliseconds precedence. Regenerate the CRD, Swagger, OpenAPI and payload schemas, and add validation cases proving that seconds and both fields survive API round trips.

Validation:

  • make update using the CI Go 1.26 image.
  • make verify-crd-schema verify-crdify for config.openshift.io/v1alpha1 against the original CI comparison base.
  • Nine Alertmanager timeout integration cases pass.

CMO counterpart: openshift/cluster-monitoring-operator#3157

Replace timeoutSeconds with timeoutMilliseconds for MON-4656, retaining an int32 API while supporting sub-second timeouts. Allow 1 through 600000 milliseconds and regenerate CRD/OpenAPI schemas. Add admission tests for valid values and validation bounds.

📝 Walkthrough

The Alertmanager configuration adds timeoutMilliseconds with a valid range of 1–600,000 milliseconds and a documented default of 10,000 milliseconds. When both timeout fields are set, timeoutMilliseconds takes precedence. The existing timeoutSeconds field remains supported, is limited to 1–600 seconds, and is marked deprecated. Creation-validation tests cover legacy, combined, valid, and invalid values.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 7a104

The API change supports millisecond timeouts while retaining legacy seconds values. No confirmed issue currently blocks merge, though effective legacy behavior depends on the accompanying operator change.

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 1 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Full details: Stable And Deterministic Test Names

Explanation

The pull request adds nine static YAML test names. They contain fixed API field names and literal boundary or representative values only. No test name contains generated identifiers, timestamps, UUIDs, node or namespace names, IP addresses, legacy metadata tokens, or other run-dependent data.

Full details: Test Structure And Quality

Explanation

The pull request adds declarative onCreate validation cases in a YAML fixture, not Ginkgo It blocks. Each added case checks one timeout input or one preservation behavior. The cases create no cluster resources, use no Eventually or Consistently waits, and contain no assertion calls requiring failure messages. Therefore the listed Ginkgo test-quality failure conditions do not apply.

Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds declarative YAML validation cases under config/v1alpha1/tests/..., not Ginkgo e2e tests. The changed file contains no It(), Describe(), Context(), or When() constructs. The MicroShift compatibility check is therefore not applicable.

Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds declarative YAML onCreate validation cases, not Ginkgo e2e tests. The cases only validate Alertmanager timeout fields and contain no multi-node or HA assumptions. SNO protection is therefore not required.

Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request changes only Alertmanager timeout API types, generated schemas, OpenAPI/Swagger output, and validation tests. The diff adds no deployment manifests, operator/controller scheduling logic, replicas, anti-affinity, topology spread, node selectors/affinity, tolerations, or PDBs. The topology-aware scheduling check is not applicable.

Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes API types, generated schemas, OpenAPI documentation, and YAML validation cases only. No OTE binary entrypoint or suite setup changed, and the changed Go files contain no process-level stdout or logging writes.

Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility

Explanation

PASS. The pull request adds declarative onCreate configuration tests in a YAML test-data file, not Ginkgo e2e tests using It(), Describe(), Context(), or When(). The alertmanager.example.com:9093 value is static configuration data; the tests do not connect to it or to any external service. No IPv4-only or public-network dependency was introduced.

Full details: No-Weak-Crypto

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes Alertmanager timeout API fields, validation tests, and generated schemas only. The reviewed diff contains no MD5, SHA1, DES, RC4, 3DES, Blowfish, ECB, custom cryptography, or secret/token comparisons.

Full details: Container-Privileges

Explanation

PASS. The pull request changes Alertmanager timeout API fields, generated schemas, and validation tests. The changed CRD manifests add only timeoutMilliseconds and deprecate timeoutSeconds; the diff introduces no privileged, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, allowPrivilegeEscalation, or root-running container settings.

Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs

Explanation

The pull request adds configuration fields, schema metadata, generated documentation, and validation tests only. The diff introduces no logging calls or log output. Example hostnames and authentication terminology appear only in configuration documentation and test fixtures, not in logs.

Comment thread config/v1alpha1/types_cluster_monitoring.go Outdated
Keep timeoutSeconds and its existing validation bounds so adding timeoutMilliseconds does not remove a stored API field. Deprecate seconds, document milliseconds precedence, regenerate schemas, and test preservation of legacy values.

  • pull-ci-openshift-api-master-e2e-aws-ovn
  • pull-ci-openshift-api-master-e2e-upgrade

Reason: This PR adds a new optional timeoutMilliseconds int32 field (range [1, 600000]) to AdditionalAlertmanagerConfig in config/v1alpha1 and deprecates timeoutSeconds. The change is purely additive: a new optional field with omitempty, no existing field validation altered, and no runtime behavioral change in this repository (the precedence logic lives in the CMO counterpart PR openshift/cluster-monitoring-operator#3157). First-stage make verify-crd-schema verify-crdify and 9 new validation test cases already confirmed schema consistency and field boundary behavior. Selected: - e2e-aws-ovn: Fresh IPI install applies the updated ClusterMonitoring CRD (payload-manifests/crds/0000_10_config-operator_01_clustermonitorings.crd.yaml); general e2e validates the cluster functions normally with the additive schema change. - e2e-upgrade: Upgrades from a stable release, applying the CRD schema update (old→new); confirms the additive optional field is backward compatible with stored objects. Not selected (with rationale): - Multi-cloud (Azure, GCP): The ClusterMonitoring CRD is cloud-agnostic; CRD-apply exercises the same path regardless of IaaS. - vSphere: Annotation targets types_infrastructure.go and VSphere-specific CRDs, none of which are changed. - TechPreview / CustomNoUpgrade: The identical timeoutMilliseconds field appears in both standard and featuregated CRD manifests; feature gates do not differentiate this schema. - HyperShift: CRD applies to the management cluster identically to standalone; no HyperShift-specific exposure. - Serial: Disruptive/serial tests do not cover new CRD field acceptance paths. - Additional upgrade variants (out-of-change, minor): One upgrade job covers the CRD backward-compatibility path; the additive nature of the field makes compatibility issues unlikely across upgrade variants.
