I’m not sure if you’ve thought of this, but live activities is also probably the current best solution for complication update restrictions on Apple Watch. Using the auto-launch live activities option for the watch, the face can default to the Smart Stack screen where the live activity will always have the latest reading. The only workaround is that you need a method to automatically restart the live activity before the 8 hour timeout that apple implements. Testing a few other apps, this has worked at near 100% reliability for the watch showing the current reading 24x7.
Hi, thanks for dropping by and commenting! That’s a great bonus for live activities on the watch, I hope we can get work started on this soon. I think Trio has that restart of LA in place.
Not sure if anyone is actively working on this but I've got a (very) rough version running.. see the screenshots below
We are currently running through Nightscout and it requires installing a new plugin on your NS server to send the Live Activity updates to your phone.
The push notification from the NS server has the benefit of keeping the data on your phone up to date without needing background running of the app, which I think may make battery usage better but subject to testing...
If anyone is keen to help test and improve please let me know and I'll share the code.

Very cool - I’m new to this world, and was starting to read up on iOS implementation of Live Activities and what needs to happen on the NS server to make this a possibility. You’re already a couple of steps ahead. Keen to help test / develop!
Sounds good - I'll create a branch and some instructions for setting up and lets go from there?
The main issue that I've run into is that iOS 'downgrades' a Live Activity over time so you can't rely on it as a permanent widget. I was thinking of updating it so that the Live Activity was triggered by a hypo or a hyper so you can monitor those closely but unlikely to be needed the rest of the time. (Alarms should be sufficient to warn of the start of an event). Could also potentially trigger on a fast rise or fall of levels.
Certainly needs more testing - give me a day or so to get sorted, bit tied up at work at the moment.

I would just like to add my support for this one. Could be very useful, especially on the new always-on displays of iPhones
