Support Request: Battery/SAM missing on Surface Laptop for Business 13in 1st Ed Intel. #2288
Device: Microsoft Surface Laptop for Business 13-inch (1st Edition, Intel / Lunar Lake)
DMI Product Name (cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/product_name):Surface Laptop for Business 13in 1st Ed Intel
Kernel Version (uname -r):6.19.8-arch1-3-surface
Distribution: CachyOS (Arch Linux derivative)
Description
The battery, charger status, and generic SAM child devices are not being recognized or initialized by the kernel. While surface_serial_hub successfully communicates with the SAM firmware, the device tree topology fails to instantiate any child devices, leaving the aggregator bus completely empty.
Steps Reproduced
Booted using the official linux-surface kernel package.
Verified that appending surface_aggregator.gpe=0x4E helps initialize platform power management profiles, but does not bring up the battery interface.
Manually loading surface_battery or trying to bind via legacy ACPI paths does not work because no power nodes exist.
Core Log Evidence
1. Aggregator Hub initializes but fails to find a matching GPE device mapping:
[ 4.917702] surface_serial_hub serial0-0: SAM firmware version: 6.38.154
[ 4.927882] surface_gpe: no compatible Microsoft Surface device found, exiting
2. The Aggregator Device Bus remains completely unpopulated:
Running ls /sys/bus/surface_aggregator/devices/ returns completely empty. No child nodes (such as battery, keyboard layout features, etc.) are being bound or exported to sysfs, indicating this specific DMI string variant needs to be added to the registry mapping table.
