Feature Request: Customizable Suffix for Synced Subtitle Filenames #25
Feature Request: Customizable Suffix for Synced Subtitle Filenames
Current Behavior
When subtitles are generated by SubSyncArr, the output files are named as follows:
From: movie-name.en.srt
To:
movie.en.autosubsync.srt
movie.en.ffsubsync.srt
From: movie-name.en.hi.srt
To:
movie.en.hi.autosubsync.srt
movie.en.hi.ffsubsync.srt
Effectively, subtitles are renamed from *.srt to *.autosubsync.srt and *.ffsubsync.srt.
Problem
Tools like Bazarr do not recognize these generated filenames, which leads to the following issues:
Bazarr cannot apply additional adjustments (e.g., shifting subtitles by a few seconds, I had couple of cases where the synced subs were ok but with constant two seconds delay).
Bazarr's syncing features for foreign subtitles (based on a synced English subtitle) can't be used.
The generated subtitles are not displayed or processed properly unless manually renamed.
Bazarr only supports the following subtitle suffixes: movie.[lang].[hi|sdh|cc|forced].srt
movie.en.cc.srt (instead of movie.en.autosubsync.srt)
movie.en.sdh.srt (instead of movie.en.ffsubsync.srt)
Benefits
Enables Bazarr to recognize and manage synced subtitle files.
Allows further adjustments via Bazarr (e.g., shifting subtitles).
Allows Bazarr to use synced English subtitles as a base to sync foreign language subtitles.
Additional Considerations
Implementation should handle cases where the original filename already includes the mapped suffix to avoid duplicates like movie.en.cc.cc.srt.
Feature should be optional and disabled by default to preserve existing behavior.
Current Workaround
At the moment, I manually rename the generated subtitle files to use supported suffixes so they’re recognized by Bazarr. Automating this would make the workflow much smoother.
