"Getting Started with Java Certification" tutorial says SE 17 is latest cert, when SE 21 exam came out in 2024-07, should be updated #201
1Z0-819: Java SE 11 Developer exam - 50 questions, passing 68% - For Java 11, the exam was launched in two parts like Java 8 (1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816). It was consolidated into a single exam, the 1Z0-819.
should probably be updated to insert a new "1." listing at the top:
with the "2." listing being set to Java SE 17, updating the existing text to no longer mark it as the "most recent certification exam".
Then, the "Should I wait for Java 21?" section, can probably be removed entirely or updated to reference the next LTS.
The "What is covered" list after "For example, exam objectives covered in Java 17 ones are" can probably be updated with a copy of the bullet points from Oracle on the exam objectives for the Java SE 21 exam, though it may also be fine to leave the Java 17 example as the section does not claim to describe the most recent exam.
The "How to study?" links can all be updated to the analogous SE 21 links ( SE 21 Video class / Learning Path , The Enthuware mock exams link for SE 17 can be updated to the Enthuware SE 21 mock exams link, I have confirmed they have it ready as I have purchased their new SE 21 mock exams myself.
Thanks very much for these resources. I purchased the Oracle courses, but I would not have found out about the Enthuware mock exams without this article.
However, I realize I did not report one other sentence in this article which needs updating, which I notice now:
Most people start with the 1Z0-808 (if you want to get an easy certification faster and build on it) or 1Z0-829 (for the latest).
Here, "1Z0-829 (for the latest)" should be updated to "1Z0-830 (for the latest)" or "(for the latest)" can be removed.
The rest are either present exactly or in paraphrase.
Also, there are additional knowledge items for some reason listed by Oracle without being grouped under a topic, at the end of their Exam Topics list (I have no opinion on whether you should include them, but FYI):
Understand the basics of Java Logging API.
Use Annotations such as Override, FunctionalInterface, Deprecated, SuppressWarnings, and SafeVarargs.
Use generics, including wildcards.
Thank you Willy, I just pushed a fix for all this. I also dropped a line to Jeanne Boyarsky, as she is the original author of the page. She may have more updates to push.
Thanks. I posted a detailed description with e.g. updated links for exam prep material for Java 25 at the ticket #242 (separate from this one which had been closed as for updating to show Java 21 cert as the latest instead of Java 17 until the next LTS had its exam released).

Thank you again for your report! I just pushed an update for the page. The 25 certifications are not available yet, but I'll keep an eye on that too.

Thanks very much for updating this!
In the latest version of https://dev.java/learn/java-cert-overview/ (archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20260302140257/https://dev.java/learn/java-cert-overview/ ), the issues described above regarding out of date content have all been resolved as described.
However, I realize I did not report one other sentence in this article which needs updating, which I notice now:
Also, for "What is covered", "exam objectives covered in Java 21" (replacing Java 17's list), it appears that at least one objective listed at https://education.oracle.com/java-se-21-developer-professional/pexam_1Z0-830 under "Exam Topics" is missing in this article's updated list:
The rest are either present exactly or in paraphrase.
Also, there are additional knowledge items for some reason listed by Oracle without being grouped under a topic, at the end of their Exam Topics list (I have no opinion on whether you should include them, but FYI):
Thanks so much!

Also, the text "Last update: July 30, 2023" at the bottom of the article https://dev.java/learn/java-cert-overview/ (current version archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20260302140257/https://dev.java/learn/java-cert-overview/ )
should definitely be updated, especially as it now includes links to the Java 21 SE exam which came out in July 2024.

Nice!
The latest version (archived at: https://web.archive.org/web/20260302160551/https://dev.java/learn/java-cert-overview/ ), looks good to me regarding updating content to take into account the release of the Java 21 certification exam and associated Oracle Learning Path back in 2024-07.
Thanks very much Jose!
