Remove try/excepts that exist for Python 2 compatibility #6120
As we no longer support Python 2, we should clean up the residual code that we have around that try/excepts modules that didn't exist in Python 2 but do in Python 3.
I'd like to take this. I'd remove the try/except import fallbacks that only existed for modules missing in Python 2, using the experimental branch in #6091 as a guide, and run the test suite to confirm nothing still relied on the fallback paths. Would you like it in one PR, or split by area to keep reviews small?
