[docs-scanner] Example uses deprecated Flocker volume driver #26376

Open

Description

@docker-agent

File: content/manuals/compose/intro/compose-application-model.md

Issue

The illustrative example uses the Flocker volume driver, which is a deprecated and defunct project:

volumes:
  db-data:
    driver: flocker
    driver_opts:
      size: "10GiB"

Flocker was discontinued and archived in 2016-2017. It is no longer maintained or available.

Why this matters

Readers following this example may:

  1. Try to use Flocker and find it doesn't exist or work
  2. Learn outdated practices that don't apply to modern Docker Compose
  3. Question whether the documentation is current and trustworthy

The example is meant to be illustrative and educational, but using a defunct driver undermines its value.

Suggested fix

Replace the Flocker driver with a current, realistic volume driver option. Options include:

  1. Use the default local driver (simplest):
volumes:
  db-data:
  1. Use a modern cloud storage driver if showing advanced options is important:
volumes:
  db-data:
    driver: local
    driver_opts:
      type: none
      o: bind
      device: /path/to/data
  1. Or reference a current third-party plugin if demonstrating extensibility is the goal.

Hi, I'd like to contribute to this issue. I noticed it has been self-assigned, but I couldn't find a linked PR. Is anyone actively working on it, or would it be okay for me to submit a fix? Thanks @aevesdocker
