docs: document the environment and machine MCP tools - #20
Conversation
The hosted MCP server now lets agents choose a project's image and control its machine: list_environments, list_machine_types, get_machine, start_machine, stop_machine, restart_machine and update_machine, plus environmentId on create_project and update_project and machineType on create_run. Document them in the skills, drop environments and hardware from the capability boundary, and bump the plugin to 0.5.0. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe Deepnote plugin documentation now covers project environment selection and machine management. It describes machine status, sizing, lifecycle operations, and machine selection for detached runs. It also documents restart requirements and kernel-state effects for machine or environment changes. Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Change: Other Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to These instructions could omit useful machine details, start a machine without user intent, or discard restorable kernel state after shutdown. The risks are bounded to documentation-guided workflows, so the change is low-risk, but correcting the guidance before merging is advisable. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 6✅ Passed checks (6 passed)

#20 documented list_environments, environmentId, and the machine tools while this branch was open. Conflicts keep main's wording and add only what main lacked: streamlitAppApiAccessEnabled and a null environment on get_project, full access and the background restart on update_project, Streamlit app API access as a persistent write, and "cannot create custom environments". list_environments keeps this branch's fuller entry. "hardware" leaves the capability boundary now that the machine tools exist, and the README environment bullet that duplicated main's is gone. main reached 0.5.0 with #20, so this branch's own 0.4.0 -> 0.5.0 bump merged away. Bump again so the environment and update_project details ship as a new version. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QBB91ZL2r3Qn3T2Bokxfuq
The hosted Deepnote MCP server now lets agents choose a project's image and control its machine. This documents the new tools in the skills so agents use them, and so the nightly drift check stays green.
