Package does not load when installed as a .sublime-package: config.json opened with open() inside the zip #3
Claude reports: installed from Package Control (which installs it as a .sublime-package zip), BioPythonUtils fails to load. Console on Sublime Text 4 build 4215:
File ".../Installed Packages/BioPythonUtils.sublime-package/BioPythonUtils.py", line 19, in <module>
blast_formats = json.load(open(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), "config.json")))['blast_formats']
FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '.../Installed Packages/BioPythonUtils.sublime-package/config.json'
open() cannot read a file inside a zip, so config.json is not found and none of the package's commands become available. Reading the file with sublime.load_resource("Packages/BioPythonUtils/config.json") would work for both a zipped and an unpacked package.
The bundled Bio code also prints SyntaxWarning: invalid escape sequence (for example Bio/GenBank/__init__.py line 150) on Python 3.14.
Checked: installed through the Package Control picker, removed again afterwards.
Activity
Fix invalid escape sequences that warn on newer Python
Load config.json with sublime.load_resource()
