Don't hide panel and status-bar items when no file is open #312
Description
Currently when no file is open, the panel shows a "No repository for active pane item" message and the branch and push/pull buttons are hidden in the status-bar:
Would be nice to not hide them. Then you can commit, switch branches, fetch etc. without having to open a random file first.

Most this is done — if you close all items or activate a pane that has no path (e.g. settings view) the repo is retained, so I'm going to close this. Some improvements yet to come!
