Can you try clearing saved state and let us know if still get the error by just opening the Git pane? Make sure to save/backup and work since you'll lose any unsaved data:
In fact I saw this error the first time I ever opened the git pane after
installing the plugin. I haven't seen it since, despite trying a few
different way to trigger the error. The project was the Linux kernel
sources.

Are you also seeing this error when you open the Git pane @mturquette? If so, are you seeing the error with any project or just a particular project?
