Feature Request: Add a Free Window Skinning Engine Like WindowBlinds #2570

Open

Description

@Alan-Cyber-Best

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I would like to customize the appearance of Windows 11 windows without patching Windows system files.

Currently, Open-Shell provides a classic Start menu, but it does not provide a way to change the appearance of window borders, title bars, and window buttons.

I would love to have a free alternative to WindowBlinds integrated into Open-Shell.

Describe the solution you'd like

I suggest creating an optional window skinning engine for Open-Shell.

Features I would love to see:

  • Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP window themes.
  • Classic gray 3D window borders.
  • Classic title bars.
  • Custom minimize, maximize and close buttons.
  • Custom window colors and fonts.
  • Support for user-created skins.
  • Windows 11 25H2 compatibility.
  • No patching or replacing Windows system files.
  • Completely free.

It would be amazing to have a complete classic Windows experience without modifying system files.

Alternatives you've considered

WindowBlinds is a similar solution, but it is paid software.

Windhawk and SecureUxTheme require additional modifications and may conflict with other customization tools.

I would like a completely free, lightweight alternative that does not patch Windows system files.
