Add “Display as a menu” support for the Windows Settings item #2515
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Open-Shell already provides a Windows Settings item in the Start Menu configuration.
However, unlike items such as Control Panel and Windows Tools, the Settings item can only be configured as:
Don't display this item
Display this item
There is no “Display as a menu” option.
As a result, the existing Settings item can only open the Windows Settings application as a normal link, while Control Panel can be expanded directly inside the Open-Shell Start Menu.
Describe the solution you'd like
Please add a “Display as a menu” option for the existing Windows Settings item, in the same way it is already available for Control Panel and Windows Tools.
When this option is selected, the Settings item should become expandable and display the main Windows Settings categories or pages, for example:
System
Bluetooth & devices
Network & Internet
Personalization
Apps
Accounts
Time & language
Gaming
Accessibility
Privacy & security
Windows Update
Each submenu entry could open the corresponding page through its ms-settings: URI.
The existing behavior should remain available:
“Display this item” would continue to show Settings as a normal link.
“Display as a menu” would show it as an expandable menu.
“Don't display this item” would hide it.
Area of issue
Start menu
Alternatives you've considered
It is possible to create individual shortcuts manually using ms-settings: URIs, but this requires building and maintaining a custom menu manually.
It would be much more convenient and consistent if the existing Settings item supported the same “Display as a menu” mode already available for Control Panel.
Additional context
The attached screenshots show:
The existing “PC Settings” item in the Open-Shell Start Menu.
The Settings item configuration, which does not offer “Display as a menu”.
The Control Panel item configured with “Display as a menu”.
This request is not asking for a new Settings item. It is asking for the existing Settings item to support the expandable menu display mode.
