Walkthrough

The PR replaces the legacy KV-cache and hybrid-state manager paths with attention-resource states, allocators, and transfer layouts. It updates model initialization, inference, cache management, and PD/DP transport to use the new resource manager, and adds state-transfer tests and validation tools.

Changes: Attention resource migration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resource states, allocators, and transfers
lightllm/common/att_resources/*
Adds full-attention, bounded-attention, and tail-state interfaces and implementations. Adds page allocators, transfer layouts, and CPU/PD/DP copy operations. Removes the former KV-cache and state-cache manager packages.
Model setup and inference integration
lightllm/common/basemodel/*, lightllm/models/*, docs/*
Separates resource preparation from runtime initialization. Model layers and attention backends now look up state through AttResourceManager; model-specific hooks define resource configuration and attention geometry. Documentation describes startup sequencing and updates Bloom examples.
Server allocation and cache paths
lightllm/server/router/*, lightllm/server/multi_level_kv_cache/*, lightllm/common/req_manager/*
Moves token allocation, request HOLD-page binding, radix-cache eviction, hybrid page handling, and CPU-cache reads and writes to the attention-resource manager and its allocators.
PD/DP transport and shared resources
lightllm/server/router/model_infer/mode_backend/*, lightllm/server/router/model_infer/shared_att_resources_utils.py
Adds resource-based PD page copying and shared-memory publication/loading. PD processes now load attention resources and use byte-sized transfer buffers; DP sharing copies token and hybrid-page state through resource managers.
Validation and supporting tests
unit_tests/*, test/att_resources/*, test/cpu_cache_kernel/*, test/benchmark/*
Adds allocator, state, transfer, startup, and cache-layout tests. Adds model-cache restoration validation and a configurable CPU-page restore benchmark.

test/benchmark/static_inference/static_benchmark.py: 1

1278-1292: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Extract the shared startup sequence into one helper.

This block repeats the startup logic that ModeBackend.init_model implements. test/att_resources/validate_model_cache.py (lines 297-311) holds a third copy. The sequence is: per-model prepare_att_resources(), the shared-domain assertions, initialize_resources inside the KV_CACHE memory-saver region, sequential init_runtime(), and set_model_init_status(True). The three copies can drift apart when the production order changes. That order already includes HOLD binding, calibration offsets, and readiness publication. Add one helper next to ModeBackend.init_model that takes (main, drafts), and call it from all three places.

lightllm/common/att_resources/full_att/gqa_transfer.py: 1

15-238: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Heavy lift

Merge the five duplicated page-transfer kernels into one shared implementation.

These five transfer modules share nearly the same wrapper and Triton kernel:

  • transfer_gqa_pages / _copy_gqa_pages
  • transfer_group_quantized_pages (in group_quantized_transfer.py)
  • transfer_mla_pages (in mla_transfer.py)
  • transfer_packed_mla_pages (in packed_mla_transfer.py)
  • transfer_static_fp8_pages (in static_fp8_transfer.py)

The copies have the same input validation, page/ready index upload, region-to-view construction, and kernel body. Only the mapping from region.field to the local tensor and its axes is different.

A future fix to masking, stride handling, or ready-page logic must be made in all five copies. One missed copy causes a silent divergence on one storage format.

Recommended change:

  • Move the validation, view construction, and _copy_*_pages kernel into one shared module.
  • Let each State pass a field -> (tensor, axes) mapping.

The same duplication exists in the _get_transfer_regions helpers of the GQA, MLA, packed MLA, group-quantized, and static FP8 State files.

lightllm/server/multi_level_kv_cache/disk_cache_worker.py: 1

57-58: Trivial · Data Integrity & Integration

Plan cleanup for disk cache files from old namespaces.

The cache file name now includes cache_namespace. cpu_cache_namespace() hashes the model paths, the artifact sizes, and st_mtime_ns. A model update changes the namespace. Copying the model files again also changes the namespace, even when the content is the same. Each namespace creates a new cache_file_<namespace> that can use up to disk_cache_storage_size. Nothing removes the files from earlier namespaces. If disk_cache_dir points to persistent storage, disk usage grows with each model revision.

Add one of these:

  • Remove cache_file_* files that do not match the current namespace at startup.
  • Document that operators must clean up stale files.

Guard the primary attention states in init_att_state and copy_for_cuda_graph.

No-attention drafts (vanilla_no_att, eagle_no_att) leave prefill_att_state and decode_att_state as None. The forward paths call init_att_state() on the infer state without a None check first. In init_att_state, only the *1 states are guarded. The primary states are dereferenced directly, so a draft forward can raise AttributeError. copy_for_cuda_graph also dereferences decode_att_state without a check.

In InferState.init_att_state, guard calls to init_state on the primary
prefill_att_state and decode_att_state when they are not None, preserving the
existing *1 state handling and check_att_states call. In copy_for_cuda_graph,
guard the primary decode_att_state copy the same way; leave the secondary state
handling unchanged.

Allocate the request KV before you allocate the destination big pages.

This code calls bounded_att_big_page_allocator.alloc before _alloc_req_kv_mem. _alloc_req_kv_mem calls free_radix_cache_to_get_enough_token. Only that eviction returns the big pages of unreferenced radix nodes to the allocator.

The guard on Line 93 uses get_can_alloc_token_num(), and that value counts unreferenced radix tokens. In a steady state, many unreferenced big-page nodes can stay in the tree. The guard then passes, but the big-page allocator can still have too few free slots. The assert on Line 110 then crashes the backend process.

read_req_from_cpu in multi_level_kv_cache.py uses the safe order: it allocates the KV first and the big pages second. Use the same order here.

Validate the complete per-head calibration layout, not only slice coverage.

Runtime initialization passes integer offsets for the main and draft models. The current branch therefore checks only whether the requested slice fits in the file. fp8kv_sph also skips the architectures comparison. A file with enough layers can pass validation and provide incompatible scales.

Validate num_target_layers and num_draft_layers independently of layer_start. Compare them with the complete runtime main/draft layout. When the metadata is absent, compare num_layers with the complete runtime layout, not with the current model slice. Preserve the target-count check; removing it can accept an incorrect target section.

Update the validation around `layer_start` and `per_head` so integer offsets do
not bypass full-layout checks: independently validate `num_target_layers` and
`num_draft_layers` against the complete runtime main/draft layout, preserving
the target-count check. When that metadata is absent, compare `num_layers` with
the complete runtime layout rather than the current slice, and ensure
`fp8kv_sph` also receives the required `architectures` comparison.

Check each draft role, not only draft0.

The loop queries "draft0" for every draft model. Suppose --mtp_step is larger than 1 with several native drafts. The script then checks draft0 again on every pass and never validates draft1 and later roles. Use the loop index to select the role.

Build the full-attention State from cfg.

The Qwen3NextResourceConfig above declares these values:

  • full_att_all_num_kv_heads=2
  • full-attention layer IDs 3, 7, …, 47

The benchmark State instead uses global_head_num=1 and layer IDs range(12). The KV region of the CPU page then describes half of the real global heads. The printed "CPU bytes/page" and the throughput therefore do not match the TP shard that the docstring claims to measure. Derive the State config from cfg.

Build the `GQAFullAttentionState` configuration from `cfg` instead of hard-coded
layer IDs, head count, and dimension so the benchmark reflects the configured TP
shard. Use `cfg.get_full_att_layer_ids()`, `cfg.full_att_all_num_kv_heads`,
`cfg.full_att_head_dim`, `cfg.full_att_dtype`, and `cfg.tp_world_size`,
preserving the existing rank value.

Do not hard-code the x86_64 libcudart.so path.

ctypes.CDLL("/usr/local/cuda/targets/x86_64-linux/lib/libcudart.so") raises OSError on aarch64 hosts, which the requirements file explicitly supports. It also fails on any CUDA install outside /usr/local/cuda. The test then reports an error instead of a skip. Resolve the library dynamically, and skip the test when the library is missing.

Use monkeypatch for LIGHTLLM_START_ARGS.

When LIGHTLLM_START_ARGS already exists before allocator_environment runs, that fixture skips monkeypatch.setenv. set_env_start_args then overwrites the variable directly, and teardown does not restore it. A later test can read these arguments.

Pass CUDA index tensors to copy_full_att_tokens.

torch.tensor([0]) and torch.tensor([7]) are CPU tensors. PackedMLAFullAttentionState.copy_full_att_tokens starts with assert src_indices.is_cuda and dst_indices.is_cuda, "token indices must reside on CUDA". This line therefore raises AssertionError, and every parametrization of test_hybrid_checkpoint_restore_and_packed_kv_copy fails before the byte-equality check.

Read the field name from the dictionary key. TensorField has no name attribute.

full_state_test_fields returns dict[str, TensorField]. TensorField in lightllm/common/att_resources/types.py defines only tensor and axes, and its docstring states that the dictionary key provides the field name. expected[field.name] therefore raises AttributeError after the transfer. The whole test_pd_kv_and_runtime_state_roundtrip matrix fails before any assertion on the restored data.

Fix the write_req_to_cpu call. It uses keyword arguments the method does not accept.

AttResourceManager.write_req_to_cpu accepts layouts, cpu_page_readies, big_page_slot_ids, and small_page_slot_ids. It has no page_kind or slot_ids parameter. This call raises TypeError on every run, so the script fails before any restore check.

Pass req_idx for every hybrid model in read_req_from_cpu.

Replace the copy_from_dp call. The manager has no copy_from_dp or dp_copy_mappings method.

AttResourceManager defines copy_from_other_dp(remote_att_manager, src_token_indexes, dst_token_indexes, src_big_page_ids, dst_big_page_ids, src_req_idx, dst_req_idx). The current call raises AttributeError before the dp_copy target is built. The dp_copy check therefore never runs.

Fix the MTP commit call. It passes a Python list where the state requires a CUDA tensor.

commit_bounded_att_state asserts accepted_steps.is_cuda. A list has no is_cuda attribute, so this raises AttributeError on every hybrid run with draft models. Use the manager API. It selects all main-role bounded states and validates the inputs.

Review comment at @test/att_resources/validate_model_cache.py at line 208:
Update the MTP commit call in the hybrid draft-model path to use
resources.commit_bounded_att_state instead of calling a bounded state directly;
pass CUDA tensor inputs and select the main role so the manager handles all
matching states and validates the inputs.
